چکیده

This study was designed to evaluate the zinc concentrations of leukocytes: monon· uclear cells, granulocytes, T and non-T lymphocytes and monocytes. The zinc content of leukocytes was 0. 137 ±0. 040 μg/10 7 cells. The zinc content of mononuclear cells (0. 188±0. 030 μg/10 7 cells) was higher than in granulocytes (0. 086± 0. 023 μg/10 7 cells) (p, DNA dependent RNA polymerase2>, and thymidine kinase3>. Inasmuch as these enzymes are important for nucleic acid and protein synthesis and cell division, zinc appears to be essential for the integrity of host defense mechanisms. All glassware was first cleaned in the usual manner, then immersed for a minimum of 24 hours in 15 percent nitric acid, and rinsed thoroughly three times in deionized distilled water. A review of the literature failed to find any reports on the zinc content of leukocytes. In this study we investigated the zinc content of leukocytes: mononuclear cells, granulocytes, T and non-T lymphocytes and monocytes. Eighty ml of fasting morning blood from healthy adult volunteers was drawn into heparinized disposable plastic syringes with stainless steel disposable needles. Leukocytes were prepared by dextran sedimentation. The mononuclear cell-granulocyte ratio in the leukocyte fraction was 3 : 7. Mononuclear cells were prepared by centrifugation *> gg ~~. ~~!llJ~-. #IQ!lfm-=f, :!ili:ff ~. S#M~ : l:'.:l.Ifil3*, *~3*. m;fJL3*, T!) /' /~3*. ~fT !) /' /~3*. *3*ifi IT) :!mjB{I~)c. v:::> \, 'L

Distribution of Circulating Immune Cells in Responder and Non-Responder Individuals to Hepatitis B Vaccine

Unresponsiveness to hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) has been shown to be associated with dysfunction of the presenting cells (APC) and defect in the specific B-lymphocyte and/or T-lymphocyte repertoires.   Direct determination of the frequency of specific T-lymphocytes together with complementary analysis of the naive circulating immune cells could provide valuable information about the cel...

Release of sFasL by Monocytes and Lymphocytes Triggered by Betaglucan and Zymosan

Background: Polysaccharides have long been used as immune-modulators in various pathologic conditions including inflammation and solid malignancies. Objective: To evaluate the effects of Zymosan and Betaglucan on cytotoxic reactions in an effectortarget conjugate system. Methods: Blood was obtained from 20 healthy subjects; purified mononuclear leukocytes (monocytes and lymphocytes) were extrac...

Zinc-deficiency induced changes in the distribution of rat white blood cells.

Zinc is known to play an important role for immune-functions. However, the effects of zinc-deficiency on the immune response system from the point of view of the distribution changes of the number of total white blood cells (WBCs) are still primarily unknown. Therefore, the effects of zinc-deficiency on the number of total WBCs, neutrophil, eosinophil, basophil, monocyte and lymphocytes (T lymp...

Effect of 900 MHz Electromagnetic Radiation on the Induction of ROS in Human Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells

Background, Despite numerous studies over a decade, it still remains controversial about the biological effects of RF EMF emitted by mobile phone telephony. Objective, Here we investigated the effect of 900 MHz GSM on the induction of oxidative stress and the level of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) in human mononuclear cells, monocytes and lymphocytes as defence system cells. Metho...

Allogeneic leukocytes but not therapeutic blood elements induce reactivation and dissemination of latent human immunodeficiency virus type 1 infection: implications for transfusion support of infected patients.

Various immunologic stimuli and heterologous viral regulatory elements have been shown to increase susceptibility to, and replication of, human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) in lymphocytes and monocytes in vitro. Transfusion of allogeneic blood components from heterologous donors constitutes a profound immunologic stimulus to the recipient, in addition to being a potential route of tran...
